Established Marine & Pile Driving Contractor, servicing MA, ME, NH and RI seeking qualified, experienced and safety conscious Tug Boat Captain to operate and maintain a 25’ Twin Screw Pushboat in Boston Harbor and coastal waters from Maine to Rhode Island, predominantly in the Boston Harbor area. Qualified individuals must hold a current USGC Merchant Mariners Credential-Master of Steam of Motor Vessels of Not More Than 100 Gross Registered Tons (Domestic Tonnage) Upon Near Coastal Waters. Experience with maneuvering and docking of construction/crane barges is required. Transportation Workers Identification Credentials (TWIC), current First Aid/CPR certification, current driver’s license and current DOT Card are required. This Technician I position is responsible for assisting in the safety and operation of the R/V CAROLINA COAST and the 4-6 crewmembers on each trip. Work consists of navigation and seamanship, plotting courses using GPS, radar, fathometer, interpolator, and navigation charts. The position maintains lookout while steaming, drifting and at anchor. This position operates winches, trawls, electronic navigation devices and all other equipment onboard. Net mending and making repairs to other gear damaged during trawling operations will be required. The person in this position must be capable of administering first aid in case of injuries. Other duties will include serving as an operator and deck hand on other DMF vessels and assisting with repairs during the annual maintenance haul out. This position will also assist other DMF staff in taking biological samples from small vessels and offering support to other DMF programs. Work will include heavy equipment and dump truck operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience with commercial fishing techniques.
Demonstrated experience handling boats and boat maintenance.
Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment.
Demonstrated experience with identification of juvenile and adult finfish, invertebrates, and shellfish found in North Carolina estuarine and ocean waters.
Demonstrated knowledge of oyster and shellfish biology.
Valid Driver’s License.
Applicants who were born after January 1, 1988 must be in compliance with the requirements for boating safety education, General Statute 75A-16.2.
Applicants will be required to obtain a Class A CDL within 9 months of employment.
A skills test will be administered to all interviewed candidates.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
