We are seeking Full-Time and Part-Time Captains to operate our 45 passenger amphibious vessels. This position will begin in March 2022. We are offering a $2,500 moving stipend after 90 days of work to help cover the costs of relocation.

A family-owned and operated company. We operate Hydra Terras for our amphibious sightseeing tours. Safety is our top priority and these vehicles were the only amphibious vessels that met our safety requirements.

Qualifications:
Minimum 25 ton U.S.C.G. Master Captains License (Required)
Must pass a U.S.C.G. drug test and enter Company’s Drug Consortium
First Aid and CPR Certification
Excellent skills in powerboat handling
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate technical information, maintain all ships logs, all vessel forms, and documentation of vessel operations.

Preferred:
The candidate also has a CDL License

Captain’s Responsibilities and Expectations:
Be in charge of all persons and activities in relation to the vessel, and provide leadership and direction to crew and passengers.
Stay fully informed of, and adhere to, all U.S. and other relevant laws, regulations (federal and state), and directives affecting the operation of the vessel.
Be knowledgeable of and ensure vessel compliance with the company’s Safety Management Program and procedures.
Be responsible for ensuring that the vessel’s overall condition and seaworthiness are continuously maintained, reporting to the Owners directly any situation that may adversely affect the vessel’s satisfactory state of operations.
Perform daily maintenance checks and complete Logbook and records as prescribed by the Owners and U.S.C.G. Requirements.
Communicate in a candid, complete, and detailed manner.
Ensure the compliance of all onboard with company and regulatory policies and regulations.
Take a proactive position with any person not following established policy.
Speak effectively when addressing guests, crew, or the public, such as participating in the Passenger Safety and Vessel Orientation meetings, making announcements on the PA system, and possibly assisting with guided tours.
Maintain a Commanding Presence as well as a courteous, friendly, and informative interaction with the guests. A high degree of customer service by you and the crew is essential, expected, and of the utmost importance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay and Work Schedule:
$25-$60 per hour plus tips.
We operate up to 8 tours daily, including holidays and weekends, from March through October. The average workday is 8 to 9 hours.
All tips are split evenly amongst the crew members.

Part time position for a busy tour boat operation. Boat is 125 passenger, double decked authentic paddle wheeler. USGC 100 ton Master license and experience with twin engine, large boat handling is required. The gross weight of this boat is 52 ton and is driven by 2 Cummins engines. Twin (split) paddles located aft measure 12′ diameter x 4′ wide Additional skills required is knowing the mechanics of the boat and being able to address mechanical issues. As a tourist expects, a clear concise narration of the lake must be presented for each trip so a pleasant personality is required. It is measured at a little over 1400 acres with 17 miles of shoreline. The boat schedule varies with private and public tours. typically the boat tours the lake 5-6 days a week with as many as 3 trips per day.

The 91’ Emerald Island is a moveable “fish camp” owned and operated by Highliner Lodge, the premier saltwater fishing lodge based in Pelican, AK. Typically anchored in a remote cove on the northern shores of Yakobi Island, the Emerald Island delivers groups of ~8 fishing guests a truly unique charter fishing experience, enjoying some of the best halibut and salmon grounds in the world by day and staying aboard the mothership with their fishing guides and a small crew at night.

Up until now, the owner of Highliner Lodge has run this part of the operation on a limited schedule but the demand has always exceeded his availability. Now, with bookings for the shoreside operation and the Emerald Island Mothership at an all-time high, we are ready to commit to running this boat on a near full-time basis during the summer months… if we can find the right people to help us do it! This could be a fantastic opportunity for a properly-credentialed individual (or a couple) to spend next summer, or many summers, living on the water in beautiful southeast Alaska with minimal responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications/Duties:
-Must hold a valid USCG 200-Ton License
-Must have excellent professional references
-Primary duty is to host groups of ~8 guests in the evenings, staying aboard the vessel at all times when guests are present
-Knowledge and ability to keep people safe and to preside over all boat operations
-Willingness to assist in any task necessary. We will staff appropriately around you and your capabilities but you will be held ultimately responsible for the success of this venture and the enjoyment of our guests while aboard.
-Some tasks could include preparing or heating prepared meals, cleaning rooms, and running fish to town in the mornings for processing

Compensation:
-TBD… will likely include a day rate, share of gratuities, rebook bonus from returning guests, meals and lodging, use of boats/kayaks during the daytime when guests are out fishing, and covered travel expenses

Schedule:
-June 1 to August 31… we anticipate about 10 days on, 4 days off (for scheduled supply runs to Juneau)
