If you love being around people and boats, then this job is for you! Our captains are responsible for ensuring the safety of the vessel, passengers and crew. While we expect our captains to have a professional demeanor, they must also be willing to laugh, engage in conversation, and explain what they’re doing while running the boat. During our public cruises, captains present our prepared narration materials in an entertaining and informative manner. The captain, along with the crew, will be responsible for preparing the boat before the cruise and cleaning it afterwards.
Captains are the first point of contact with our customers. They identify maintenance and safety issues and take steps to report and correct them. Captains assist with pre and post-season maintenance; fueling, cleaning and other maintenance projects when there is down time. Captains must know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security and emergencies. Captains can expect to work between 10 and 35 hours per week depending on their availability and our cruise schedule.
Qualifications:
We’re looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills who can work both independently and as part of a team. Captains should have experience operating small boats. Successful applicants must be reliable and able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. We expect careful attention to detail. Captains will work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
Familiarity and experience with Lake Mendota and/or Lake Monona is a big plus. Experience with boat maintenance is another plus. You must be fluent in English and be honest, dependable and forthright. You must hold a valid driver’s license. Captains must be able to complete an approved CPR/First Aid course.

Charters is seeking a part-time United States Coast Guard sailing captain to perform day charters as well as overnight multi day charters on an as needed basis at its Punta Gorda, Florida location. OVERVIEW:
The Captain is responsible for assuring exceptional, first class service for our guests. Captains must give a positive, enthusiastic attitude at all time. Captains are also responsible for explaining safety procedures and ensuring all guests’ safety throughout cruise. While the vessel is underway, the captain is ultimately responsible for all decisions and operations on cruise vessel.

Essential Functions:

Initiates contact with guests, with a warm welcome and the willingness to assist the guest
Explaining safety procedures
Able to speak in front of up to 50 people in calm and professional manor
Must be proactive in anticipating the guest’s needs
Must effectively communicate all pertinent information amongst his/her team members and supervisory staff in regards to daily operations.
Always carries themselves in a friendly approachable manner
Must be highly service focused with a desire to engage with guests.
Demonstrate initiative – ability to think, work, and make decisions to solve guest concerns based on sound judgment.
Must be able to maintain organization and cleanliness in a busy environment
Performs other related duties as assigned
With instructions and supervision from the Marina Operations Manager, become familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, etc.) as well as operation of depth finder and other critical systems including radio communication
Has a very good familiarity with the waters of Table Rock Lake, weather conditions, history of the Lady Liberty
Is responsible for the maintenance of required logbooks. Insuring that the hours of the boat, number of passengers, and names of crew mates aboard each crew is documented legibly. Log book documentation is also required anytime that any maintenance is conducted on the Lady Liberty Coordinate and participate in Coast Guard certified training with crew mates insuring that training times are communicated to crew mates and the training is documented in the log book Ensure all functions of the vessel are working properly prior to each cruise this includes and is not limited to checking to make sure the vessel has enough fuel, engine oil, black water levels, and potable water levels
Ensure that main generator, backup generator and entertainment systems are working properly
Ensure that the canopy covering 2nd level of the Lady Liberty is free of any water to ensure guest safety from water run off while vessel is operating
Ensure all issued equipment such as hand held radios, PFDs, etc. is returned and in good working condition
Always makes decisions with the guests safety and experience on board in mind
Conduct one’s self in an outgoing and friendly demeanor, able to engage and communicate easily with passengers and crew mates
Follows all Big Cedar Lodge’s dress and grooming standards
Candidate Profile:
Skills and Knowledge
Must possess and provide current Coast Guard Certified Master’s License (not less than 50 ton)
Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time, work safely, communicate effectively, understand and carry out written and oral directions, and establish good working relationships with co-workers and crew
Able to work in outside weather conditions
Lift, reach, bend, twist, push, pull, squat, grasp and use arm-hand coordination on a consistent basis
Have the ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
Be able to work weekends and holidays, mornings and evenings as business/cruise schedule demands.
Writing – Communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Basic Computer Skills – Using basic computer hardware and software (e.g., personal computers, word processing software, Internet browsers, etc.).
Driving Comprehension – The ability to operate all vessels without incident/damage occurrence
