ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Determines course and speed on basis of specialized knowledge of wind, weather, tides and current.

Steers the vessel and may push or pull barges to destination and to berth while avoiding hazards to shipping and utilizing various navigation devices Supervises the vessel crew in the daily operation of the vessel Oversees the loading and unloading of vessels Tracks and reports crew days and cargo hours and reports it in a timely manner Keeps logs of vessel operations as required by company or USCG Ensures safety of crew and vessel and upholds the safety policies of the Company.
Leads crew in conduction safety meetings, JSA’s, and other reporting conditions Maintains Communications with office about sailing directions Teamwork is a must

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : Minimum of 5 years of experience as a vessel captain. Alaska experience (local Knowledge in operating area) is required LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, and safety regulations.

Ability to write reports and accurately record information into vessel records. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, crew, customers, and the general public.
English speaking is required. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to use common sense and sound judgment to deal with situations and multiple problems that occur simultaneously in a highly controlled and regulated environment.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Minimum Requirements USCG License-
Captain 50 Ton, Inland Radar endorsement Merchant Marine Document STCW Endorsement preferred TWIC Card required FCC Radio License required Hovercraft Vessel specific training required Current CG Physical Card required Driver’s license-
preferred. Passport preferred NSTC with H2S card required OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, nights or holidays and to be away from home for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in a team environment in close quarters for extended periods of time. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to get along well with various types of personalities, backgrounds, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and smell. The employee is frequently required to walk.
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions;
moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions;
extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
COMMENTS : Post-conditional offer of employment drug test is required. Random drug testing is required of all employees.

Job Description:

Employment Period: May 1st through September 15th
Duties
Operate a 26’ aluminum North River boat with twin 150hp outboard motors and a 9.9 trolling motor.
Clean and maintain a safe fishing environment on the boat.
Maintain fishing equipment and tackle for guest’s use.
Bait preparation.
Fuel boat as needed.
Guide 4-5 guests on daily fishing excursions from 7:45AM to 4:45PM for salmon, halibut, rockfish, black cod, flounder, Dungeness crab, and shrimp. (We provide training on all fishing techniques)
Assist with daily fish processing.
Assist lodge mechanic in boat maintenance and repairs.
Miscellaneous duties related to lodge operations as needed.

Requirements<

Must have a current USCG license to carry passengers for hire. (OUPV 6-pack minimum)
Good health and ability to lift 80 pounds.
Must enjoy working in an outdoor environment.
Able to conduct routine daily tasks with limited or no supervision.
Must enjoy entertaining people and able to get along with fellow workers in a remote setting.
Must submit results of DOT drug screen urinalysis prior to employment. Results of drug screen must indicate no use of illegal or dangerous drugs including marijuana.

Compensation/Benefits
Monthly Salary DOE + tips. Paychecks are distributed bi-monthly.
Housing – Private room with shared bathroom/shower facilities. Bedding, towels, and laundry facilities available.
Meals – Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided while on the boat or at the lodge.
Company is required to withhold applicable federal taxes from paychecks.
Covered for work related injuries/illnesses by our maritime insurance.
Unemployment insurance.

The Indian Harbor Yacht Club in CT is hiring full-time and part time Launch operators, starting April 1, 2019. Operators must hold a current MMC allowing them to operate a USCG inspected launch with a capacity of 18 passengers.
