Position Summary
The Captain directs the vessel’s activities and operates the vessel safely and efficiently while supervising onboard crew. This position serves as the primary contact onboard the vessel with the USCG concerning compliance with laws and regulations. The Captain administers training and drills aboard the vessel, and this position ensures a high level of customer service is provided, all while directly supervising Deckhand(s) onboard the vessel. The Captain also has a responsibility to provide support to other crew in designated area expertise. The captain oversees the loading and unloading of the vessel.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Direct the onboard ferry’s activities and ensure crew safety and security while the vessel is underway.
• Operate the vessel at safe and economical engine speeds, per established policies. >
• Plan and coordinate safety inspections of the ferry to ensure safe operation of equipment, crew safety and compliance with USCG laws and regulations.
• Train and provide feedback for evaluation of the performance of marine crew.
• Review contents of Vessel Operations Guide and Pass down Log.
• Maintain radio watch and monitor VHF channels 10 and 16.
• Guarantee a physically safe and environmentally sound working environment, proper tools, training, facilities and materials for all crewmembers; conduct weekly emergency drills.
• Develop strong relationships with appropriate crewmembers and represent the Company at meetings and other functions as requested.
• Participate in meetings, training, drills and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy.
• Ensure vessel is secure and an alarm is set prior to departure from evening shift.
• Assure quality workmanship and performance by crewmembers.
• Ensure crew are properly uniformed, demonstrate appropriate attitudes, are technically competent in their area of responsibility, that all crewmembers are providing their best efforts, and that we have identified and are using their skills to the company’s best advantage.
• Comply with rules and regulations contained in the Crew Handbook and as directed by Supervisor.
• Report to work on time and ready for duty
• Depart the vessel(s) only when properly relieved
• Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all – internal and external.
Requirements
• Valid U.S.C.G. licensed for Master of motor vessels of 100 gross tons and able to maintain
• Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to operate a forklift and other machinery not limited to excavators and skid steerers.
• Ability to operate a Palfinger crane and a hydraulic stern ramp.
• Ability to train, mentor, coach, and counsel crew.

Sea Tow is hiring a full-time captain for marine assistance/towing to pleasure boaters at it’s location in Florida. A rare captain’s position that allows you to go home at night! Position is primarily based at our location in Florida, but occasionally providing some coverage on our boat docked in Doctors Lake and the St. John’s river. You will be on a set hourly schedule and some on call after hours. Pay is hourly, on call pay and commissions for salvage work. To qualify, you need at least an OUPV captain’s license with a towing endorsement and good small boat handling skills, as our fleet of towboats consist of vessels from 22 to 26 feet in length. It is required that we will place you on our random drug testing program. The position also includes some light boat maintenance and office duties of dispatching and basic computer skills. You must be able to work weekends and summer holidays. With instructions and supervision from the Marina Operations Manager, become familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, etc.) as well as operation of depth finder and other critical systems including radio communication
Has a very good familiarity with the waters of Table Rock Lake, weather conditions, history of the Lady Liberty and current events of the Big Cedar Lodge property and Bass Pro Shops brand
Is responsible for the maintenance of required logbooks. Insuring that the hours of the boat, number of passengers, and names of crew mates aboard each crew is documented legibly. Log book documentation is also required anytime that any maintenance is conducted on the Lady Liberty
Coordinate and participate in Coast Guard certified training with crew mates insuring that training times are communicated to crew mates and the training is documented in the log book
Ensure all functions of the vessel are working properly prior to each cruise this includes and is not limited to checking to make sure the vessel has enough fuel, engine oil, black water levels, and potable water levels
Ensure that main generator, backup generator and entertainment systems are working properly
Ensure that the canopy covering 2nd level of the Lady Liberty is free of any water to ensure guest safety from water run off while vessel is operating
Ensure all issued equipment such as hand held radios, PFDs, etc. is returned and in good working condition
Always makes decisions with the guests safety and experience on board in mind
Conduct one’s self in an outgoing and friendly demeanor, able to engage and communicate easily with passengers and crew mates
Follows all Big Cedar Lodge’s dress and grooming standards

The Captain shall have the sole responsibility for insuring the safety and security of the vessel, the passengers and the crew at all times. They shall be licensed by the United States Coast Guard to operate the vessel and insure that all rules and regulations are followed as set forth for each vessel they are assigned to operate. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Ability to successfully complete orientation and position specific training, Pass a criminal background check as required, Obtain CPR/First aid certification and obtain a TWIC card as required. The ability to input data using a computer and other traditional means.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Captains frequently spend long hours standing in the pilothouse while piloting a vessel and while boarding/ disembarking passengers. This is often outdoors during all weather conditions in and around the Chicago are waterways. The Captain will frequently get under way on the vessel and will be subject to the effects of the marine environment. The Captain may spend time in cramped conditions below decks while performing his/her duties.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Towing with Near Coastal & Western Rivers:
The captain is responsible for the following:

Safe and efficient transportation and relocation of barges and its cargo;
