The Captain is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and adherence to company standards while representing the company in a professional manner with guests. Candidates must be meticulous and demonstrate operational discipline in all respects. On board, you will receive excellent private accommodations, with in-suite head, satellite TV, etc., spouses are welcome. This position is ideal for experienced/retired Naval or Coast Guard officers with command experience. SUMMARY:
The Dive Safety Officer (DSO) / Boat Captain, under the direction of the Vice President of Animal Husbandry is responsible for managing the dive program for Frost Science. The DSO will ensure all diving operations and the Dive Safety Manual adhere to OSHA regulations, which may or may not involve the use of the scientific diving exemption. The Dive Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing the Dive Program for the museum including training, documentation and daily supervision of diving activities. The Dive Safety Officer will oversee all dive equipment for the Museum and ensure routine maintenance is performed. The Dive Safety Officer is expected to be an active part of the diving staff for the maintenance of the aquatic exhibits and fieldwork conducted by the Museum. The ideal candidate will have intimate knowledge of OSHA diving standards and scientific diving. As a dual role, this position will also oversee the operation and maintenance of all boats owned and operated by the Museum.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Dive Safety Officer for the Museum.
Serve as Captain for all Museum owned boats.
Develop and oversee policies and procedures that ensure the safety of staff, volunteer, guest/VIP and contract divers at all Museum-related diving operations, both on-site and in the field.
Maintain the Museum’s Dive Safety Manual.
Evaluate and monitor all Museum diving activities to ensure compliance with the Dive Safety Manual and OSHA regulations.
Maintain a strong knowledge base on diving industry standards, diving physiology, equipment, and techniques to ensure the Museum’s compliance with all relevant safety standards.
Serve in a leadership role on the Dive Control Board.
Coordinate dive training, check out dives, dive medical examinations and oversee CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration training. Maintain necessary records.
Serve as Museum liaison to outside agencies involved in diving safety and regulations, including OSHA, American Academy of Underwater Sciences, Diver Alert Network, etc.
Purchases, coordinates repairs and maintains all Museum dive equipment.
Participate in Museum Safety Committee.
Works with the VP of Animal Husbandry and Curatorial staff to coordinate staff diver scheduling for key husbandry operations, field work and potential presentation dives.
Responsible for daily supervision and communications with staff divers including assignments, addressing questions and concerns, gear checks, and ensuring all tasks required of the dive teams are completed. Delegates this responsibility to support staff as necessary to ensure 7-day/week coverage.
Accountable for delegating supervisory responsibility to covering husbandry staff overseeing dive teams working all day, 7 days a week during operating hours, evening cleaning dives, special events, and field diving opportunities.
Responsible for providing strong technical insight into all aspects of the dive program activities and supporting institutional and departmental missions.
Manages risk and ensures the safety of staff and contract divers at all Museum-related diving operations, both on-site and in the field. Completes all assigned work in an efficient and timely manner.
Responsible for meeting commitments negotiated with other departments, external partner organizations and institutions
Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, facilities, and personnel associated with diving operations.
Participates in Museum sponsored and approved specimen collecting trips. Participates in and leads Museum sponsored marine conservation trips. Manage select dive program staff. Oversee the preventative and emergency maintenance of the Museum boat(s).
Trains identified staff members to operate the boat(s), through the creation of a written training and check off manual.
Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Prepare and manage budgets as assigned by supervisor.
Work on other areas, tasks or other collaborative teams as needed and as assigned.
Serves as spokesperson on behalf of the Museum.
Serves as Manager on Duty as scheduled.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience in aquarium or zoo diving program is highly desirable.
Experience leading field diving operations and scuba equipment repair technician a plus.
Must possess significant analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Must have solid knowledge of marine science and be able to apply to an Aquarium setting.
Must be proficient in Dive safety, SCUBA procedures.
Must be adept at observation to watch for any signs of poor weather, unsafe diving conditions, broken equipment, or injury. Must be able to coordinate and manage large groups of people.
Must have capacity to decide when to act independently and when to seek consultation from management.
Should be a proficient public speaker and interpersonal communicator. Should possess ability to mentor and train staff and volunteers.
Must be competent in research components including publications and research.
Familiarity with computers is necessary; must be able to log and record data.

Current West Coast region consists of California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. The Demo Boat Captain will be solely responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and operating the demo boat as it travels throughout the region.
The Demo Boat Captain will be responsible for the following activities within the region :
Operating the demo boat during demo day events, boat shows, private demos, and any other time where the demo boat is needed.
Maintaining the vessel including scheduling and managing service, cleaning of the vessel before and after all demos.
Presenting technology to customers and educating them on the product.
Gathering contact information from all demo attendees.
Have all demo attendees sign the demo boat waiver.
Towing the demo boat between locations for events as necessary.
Contact marinas to secure slips as needed.
Contact marinas and brokerages to set up Demo Days and handle logistics of set up, demo schedule, and marketing of event to local boaters.
Required Skills
Qualifications and Experience :
2-5 years related experience in the marine industry.
Valid passport and be available for both domestic and international travel.

The successful candidate is responsible to maintain the appearance of the vessel which includes driving, directing daily activities, cleaning, custodial work, and assisting with docking and undocking; will uphold the strictest safety standards; and will maintain a professional and friendly demeanor. He/she will practice safety always, comply with all company regulations and procedures, and strive to give prompt, courteous service to the company and our clients.

Moving Yokohama fenders.
b. Moving camels and separators
c. Tug assistance
d. Open/close large and small channel gates.
e. Respond to oil spills. Remove Navigation hazards.
g. Deliver Paint Maintenance Barges (PMB) to Navy units
Respond to possible oil spills reported to APS (collateral duty). This involves:
Responding to possible spills on land or water.
Deploying absorbent material to collect HAZMAT. Collecting and disposing of soiled absorbent materials.
Setting up Decontamination stations.
Operating oil spill recovery equipment.
Decontamination of oil spill response equipment.
Clean and maintain all vessels in an orderly condition. This involves:
Washing, rinsing, drying, and storing equipment.
Cleaning and washing the vessels after use or as requested.
Properly disposing of garbage. Inventory oil spill response supplies and equipment as directed.
Clean the storage area designated for oil spill response supplies and equipment as directed.
Clean and inspect the oil spill response equipment as directed. Complete Sounding and Security rounds as directed
Maintain permanent and response boom as directed. This involves:
Inspection and Cleaning of permanent boom in the water or on land as directed by the Operations Manager.
Inspection and cleaning of response boom on land as directed by the Operations Manager.
Removal of permanent or response boom from the water.
Deployment of permanent or response boom into the water. Disposal of permanent boom from the water to disposal area.
Disposal of response boom from the water to disposal area.
Deliver/Retrieve Paint Maintenance Barges (PMB) from/to Navy vessels.
Splice and assist in the splicing of tie-up and mooring lines.
Inspecting the vessel’s safety equipment or assist other personnel as directed.

Assist in the fueling of vessels
Wipe up oil spills, and grease on decks immediately. Do not hose oil overboard; wipe up with rags.
