SUMMARY:

The Boat Captain is in command aboard the vessel and will assume full responsibility for the safety of the crew and guests. The Boat Captain will coordinate and complete the necessary day-to-day operations/activities with the assistance of the First Mate and crew. No member of the vessel crew including the Boat Captain and First Mate is above any work/tasks needing to be done to meet the overall goal of a safe, fun, efficient & working vessel for the guests. Will work as part of the team to provide guests with the best possible, positive experience on Flathead Lake.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in special training & maintain all required license/credentials/certifications
Maintain guest contact – excellent customer service
Knowledgeable with the Flathead Lake area, history, points of interest and sights
Knowledgeable with Resort specials/events/promotions
Knowledgeable with the procedures on how to prepare to get under way, fueling, starting the engine and raising the anchor
Knowledgeable in the operation of the critical systems, i.e. read electronic navigation, gauges, read paper or electronic charts, read a compass, steering, dewatering, safety procedures, etc.
Perform manual checks to verify sufficient fluid levels prior to operation of vessel
Calculate positions, set courses & determine speed of boat to ensure guest safety
Routinely inspect all systems to ensure efficient & safe operations of the vessel & equipment
Ensure maintenance of boat & related support equipment such as engines, navigational systems, docks, boarding ramps, rescue equipment, fire extinguishers & life preservers
Performs navigational watches while the vessel is underway
Know where and how to use safety equipment
Ability to put out a fire
Perform docking procedures
Ability to anchor the vessel
Knowledgeable in the “rules of the road” – who has the right of way
Knowledgeable in the various navigational aids & their meaning
Can dock the vessel or leave a dock in various wind conditions
Knowledgeable in use of a marine radio to call for help
Maintain all daily logbooks
Monitor the loading & disembarking of guests
Assist in hiring process of Seasonal crew members & First Mate
Responsible for the training and orientation of all crew members, ensuring all crew members understand and perform their required duties adequately
Responsible for the work schedules of the crew
Monitor and submit the crew’s time records to Payroll
Create & maintain Marina Operations department SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the boat
Ensure all crew members are trained, understand & abide by the employee handbook, their position descriptions & the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
Participate in & execute emergency drills
Ability to render first aid, assisting with a medical evacuation, conduct a person overboard procedure & have the ability to get a person back on board from the water
Complete & properly log written drill reports
Maintain a clean, neat, safe vessel; restock necessary supplies
Resolve questions or problems with guests
Prepare pre-season and post-season inventory of all gear, boat maintenance & related support equipment, i.e. engines, anchors, navigational systems, docks, boarding ramps, rescue equipment, fire extinguishers & life preservers
At the end of the season, report any item needing attention and/or repairs during the off season.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
At least 19 years of age
Required documented days on a vessel within the past 3 years for 50 ton vessel.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES & REGULATIONS:
Current USCG license/credential
Current First Aid & CPR certification
Basic Safety Training

Operate a 26’ aluminum North River boat with twin 150hp outboard motors and a 9.9 trolling motor.
Clean and maintain a safe fishing environment on the boat.
Maintain fishing equipment and tackle for guest’s use.
Bait preparation.
Fuel boat as needed.
Guide 4-5 guests on daily fishing excursions from 7:45AM to 4:45PM for salmon, halibut, rockfish, black cod, flounder, Dungeness crab, and shrimp. (We provide training on all fishing techniques)
Assist with daily fish processing.
Assist lodge mechanic in boat maintenance and repairs.
Miscellaneous duties related to lodge operations as needed.

Requirements<

Must have a current USCG license to carry passengers for hire. (OUPV 6-pack minimum)
Good health and ability to lift 80 pounds.
Must enjoy working in an outdoor environment.
Able to conduct routine daily tasks with limited or no supervision.
Must enjoy entertaining people and able to get along with fellow workers in a remote setting.
Must submit results of DOT drug screen urinalysis prior to employment. Results of drug screen must indicate no use of illegal or dangerous drugs including marijuana.

Position Summary

The Captain directs the vessel’s activities and operates the vessel safely and efficiently while supervising onboard crew. This position serves as the primary contact onboard the vessel with the USCG concerning compliance with laws and regulations. The Captain administers training and drills aboard the vessel, and this position ensures a high level of customer service is provided, all while directly supervising Deckhand(s) onboard the vessel. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Direct the onboard ferry’s activities and ensure crew safety and security while the vessel is underway.

Sea Tow is hiring a full-time captain for marine assistance/towing to pleasure boaters at it’s location in Florida. A rare captain’s position that allows you to go home at night! Position is primarily based at our location in Florida, but occasionally providing some coverage on our boat docked in Doctors Lake and the St. John’s river. You will be on a set hourly schedule and some on call after hours. Pay is hourly, on call pay and commissions for salvage work. To qualify, you need at least an OUPV captain’s license with a towing endorsement and good small boat handling skills, as our fleet of towboats consist of vessels from 22 to 26 feet in length. It is required that we will place you on our random drug testing program. The position also includes some light boat maintenance and office duties of dispatching and basic computer skills. You must be able to work weekends and summer holidays. Has a very good familiarity with the waters of Table Rock Lake, weather conditions, history of the Lady Liberty and current events of the Big Cedar Lodge property and Bass Pro Shops brand
Is responsible for the maintenance of required logbooks. Insuring that the hours of the boat, number of passengers, and names of crew mates aboard each crew is documented legibly. Log book documentation is also required anytime that any maintenance is conducted on the Lady Liberty
Coordinate and participate in Coast Guard certified training with crew mates insuring that training times are communicated to crew mates and the training is documented in the log book
Ensure all functions of the vessel are working properly prior to each cruise this includes and is not limited to checking to make sure the vessel has enough fuel, engine oil, black water levels, and potable water levels
Ensure that main generator, backup generator and entertainment systems are working properly
Ensure that the canopy covering 2nd level of the Lady Liberty is free of any water to ensure guest safety from water run off while vessel is operating
Ensure all issued equipment such as hand held radios, PFDs, etc. is returned and in good working condition
Always makes decisions with the guests safety and experience on board in mind
Conduct one’s self in an outgoing and friendly demeanor, able to engage and communicate easily with passengers and crew mates
Follows all Big Cedar Lodge’s dress and grooming standards
