We run 4 tours a day on 45 foot Corinthian Catamarans with 2-250 Yamaha’s which carry 49 passengers. Position Summary:

The Captain directs the vessel’s activities and operates the vessel safely and efficiently while supervising onboard crew. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct the onboard ferry’s activities and ensure our riders’ safety and security while the vessel is underway.
Operate the vessel at safe and economical engine speeds, per established policies.
Plan and coordinate safety inspections of the ferry to ensure safe operation of equipment, crew safety and compliance with USCG laws and regulations.
Train and provide feedback for evaluation of the performance of marine crew.
Work with Port Captain to ensure all inspections by the USCG meet the standard (no 835s) insofar as is practicable.
Work with Port Captain to ensure vessel(s) maintain a COI inspection ready condition at all times.
Maintain and enhance our benchmark status with all inspecting agencies.
Work with Port Captain to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations to include station bill assignments.
Provide required training as needed for working with and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
Review contents of Vessel Operations Guide and Pass down Log.
Maintain radio watch and monitor VHF channels 13 and 16.
Guarantee a physically safe and environmentally sound working environment, proper tools, training, facilities and materials for all crewmembers; conduct weekly emergency drills.
Ensure that the safety of our riders and crewmembers is maximized through careful and vigorous definition, administration and enforcement of safety policies and guidelines. Coordinate emergency response.
Develop strong relationships with appropriate crewmembers and represent the Company at meetings and other functions as requested.

The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMMP) aims to inspire a connection and respect for the Chesapeake Bay for generations to come. With a mission to educate youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits and community events. This mission is accomplished through a suite of hands-on programming including a robust educational department, winter lectures, community events and two annual fundraisers that bring visitors to two unique locations along Back Creek. The AMMP is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization with a full-time and part-time staff of 12, in addition to 175 active volunteers.

The AMMP seeks a part-time lead Captain for the Skipjack Wilma Lee, based out of the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis. This is a part-time (20 hours) permanent position, reporting directly to the Education Director, with a salary range between $24,000-$28,000 commensurate with experience. One of only a few remaining Chesapeake Bay Skipjacks, the Wilma Lee is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wilma Lee was built in 1940 on the Maryland eastern shore by the well-known boat builder Bronza Parks. The Wilma Lee has an LOA of 75 feet, 47 feet on deck and a 16-foot beam. She is sloop-rigged with a centerboard, and her push boat has been replaced with two inboard motors.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee the operation of the Skipjack Wilma Lee, upholding high safety and professional standards for educational programs, heritage tours, and specialty cruises
• Maintain and repair the Wilma Lee as needed including performing seasonal maintenance, scheduling haul-outs and coordinating significant repairs with vendors and boatyards
• Manage United States Coast Guard (USCG) certification and oversee inspections
• Develop vessel operation checklists and maintain all records and logs required by USCG and AMMP, including those related to vessel and engine maintenance, training and safety drills and rigging
• Manage both maintenance and crew volunteers including recruitment, scheduling, tracking and reporting hours, and conducting background checks
• Develop and conduct Captain and Crew training programs, to include a final sign off process for each crew member
• Develop and administer drug and alcohol testing, CPR, First-Aid, and safety program for crew and docents and all other USCG requirements regarding the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle
• Serve as the on-call
• Ensure all passengers have an outstanding experience by utilizing strong guest service skills and exercising effective communication skills

Skills and Qualifications:
• Must currently possess a current Merchant Mariner Credential of Master of Self-Propelled Vessels of at least 50 tons, including Auxiliary Sail upon Inland Waters with a satisfactory record, as well as a current Medical Certificate.
• Experience operating commercial passenger USCG “t” vessels, with experience operating a vessel similar in size to the Wilma Lee preferred
• Have and maintain Radio Operator Permit, CPR, and First Aid Certification
• Experience with boat maintenance and small repairs, with wooden boat maintenance experience preferred
• Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects of at least 50 pounds
• Willingness to be on-call and monitor the boat during inclement weather and manage emergency repairs.
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and weekend and holidays
• Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay ecology and environment issues facing the bay

Our personnel specialize in high resolution surveys for inland, nearshore and offshore underwater investigations, including detailed dam and underwater infrastructure assessments, site surveys, engineering, archaeological and benthic habitat investigations, and remediation efforts, as well a vessel charter services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Management, maintenance and operation of vessels Near and offshore management and operation of vessels on charter Navigate vessels on survey transects using navigation software Pilot vessels with both fixed mounted and towed systems for bathemetric and geophysical surveys including (single and multibeam) sidescan, subbottom, magnetometer, video, etc

Operate vessels during sediment sampling with vibracore and gravity/piston coring systems as well as grab samplers Towing trailers and boats to and from job sites all over the US Candidate must be competent with towing trailers Employee will work long hours in the field and lift heavy objects (50 lbs.), traveling to project sites and offshore for extended periods (4 – 12 weeks) Work closely with engineers, oceanographers, geophysicists, geoscientists and hydrographers EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION: More than 5 years’ experience operating and maintaining boats USCG 100 TN Captains license or larger Must have strong communication skills and be able to work both independently and on as part of a team Experience working on small boats and large vessels required Willingness and ability to travel and work in the field as well as offshore for weeks at a time (work is on call and when available) Some physical requirements apply (lifting 50 lbs.) Required for Position : USCG Master’s License. (Your application will not be considered without this requirement)

The vessels Captain is responsible for directing safe and lawful operation of the vessel to ensure the safety, health and discipline of all crew onboard, and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of fishing and processing operations.

Work Schedule :

Typical work hours are 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, however, the Captain is responsible on a 24 hours per day basis.
Work Environment :

While performing the duties of this job, captains may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving machinery, trawl gear and various species of fish.
Captains may also be exposed to wet, humid and freezing conditions, high, precarious places, vibration and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Captains work onboard a vessel in the ocean which by nature produces varying degrees of motion onboard.

Protective Clothing and Equipment :

Storm weather clothing, survival suit, mustang suit, life preserver, skiff, life rafts, SCBA, fire extinguishing equipment, first aid equipment, hardhat, noise suppression devices and safety goggles.

Materials, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids :

Commercial fishing equipment such as trawl gear, net reel hydraulics, navigation, ship handling, radio communications, computer, fax and telex operation, sonar and depth sounder operation.

Job Requirements that are Common to All Positions :

All employees must be able to :
Understand and follow instructions, directions, safety rules and procedures in English.
Board and exit the vessel by gangplank or Jacob’s ladder without assistance.
Board or exit a skiff without assistance in all weather conditions.
Ascend and descend steep stairways and ladders in all temperatures.
Work 12 hours hours per day, 7 days per week for the duration of the contract.
Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time.
Work long hours in all kinds of weather.
Work in a cold and wet environment.
Don life jacket, life vest and / or survival suit without assistance.
Live and work with others in close quarters.
Be away from medical care and supervision for 3+ months at a time.
Share crew quarters, bathroom facilities, and common dining areas with other crew members.
Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug tests per USCG regulations.

Job Requirements that are Specific to Captains :

Captains must be able to :
Perform and / or manage vessel navigation and fishing operations of the vessel.
Manage and supervise bridge watch standing activities.
Supervise all wheelhouse and deck personnel.
Direct and manage all operations of the vessel not involving the direct operation of the factory.
Coordinate with all vessel departments and supervise on a continual basis.
Manage all at-sea medical and emergency operations.
Assist the First Mate in providing direct medical care to injured crew as necessary.
Direct the transfer of crew on and off the vessel.
Maintain ships log and prepare all reports as required by the company, USCG and other regulatory agencies.
Inspect vessel areas on a regular basis.

Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to stand and walk; use fingers, hands and arms to push, pull and reach;

bend and twist; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employees must be able to give and follow instructions, speak, hear, and understand English.

Education, Experience :

Groundfish Catcher Processor captain experience.

USCG Medical Emergency response training.

Current Hazwoper certificate.
