Barton and Gray Mariners Club has revolutionized yachting with a fleet of 70+ Hinckley and custom vessels serving a private membership in harbors along the East Coast and Great Lakes. Our growing team is looking for USCG licensed captains to operate the Club’s meticulously maintained 36′ – 44’ Hinckley yachts throughout South Florida, South Carolina, and the Northeast. B&G captains operate day and evening trips and are back in their home port each night, enjoying a lifestyle unique in the industry.
Our captains have the opportunity to work with the Club year-round or seasonally in our South Florida, South Carolina, and Northeast harbors. Seasons run June to October in the Northeast, and November to May in our southern and Bahamas harbors.

Job Description:
Paddlewheel Boat Captain Webster, Massachusetts.
Full or part time position for a busy tour boat operation. Boat is 125 passenger, double decked authentic paddle wheeler. USGC 100 ton Master license and experience with twin engine, large boat handling is required. The gross weight of this boat is 52 ton and is driven by 2 Cummins engines. Twin (split) paddles located aft measure 12′ diameter x 4′ wide. As a tourist expects, a clear concise narration of the lake must be presented for each trip so a pleasant personality is required. It is measured at a little over 1400 acres with 17 miles of shoreline.
The boat schedule varies with private and public tours. Typically the boat tours the lake 5-6 days a week with as many as 2-3 trips per day. Busy and energetic atmosphere. If you love music the boat is located at a concert venue on the lake. Housing available if coming from out of state. Season runs May through October but start and end dates may be flexible.

Job Description:
Narragansett Sailing and Boating School is looking to hire a few more instructors who love to share their knowledge and experience to others.
Basic Diesel, Boat Systems and Marine Electrical are three different, two day courses offered from October to April. They are all done in a classroom setting with many hands on activities to enhance the learning curve.
Our goal is to equip recreational sailors with the knowledge and basic skills, to help them troubleshoot issues that come up on their boat. And to know when to call in a professional and learn how to convey information in a way that can save them a lot of money.
The classes run for two days, 9-4 with an hour lunch. Teach one to three times a month, your choice. Pay is $450 a class and you’ll be 1099 at the end of the year.
You’ll use our tried and proven curriculmn, although you need a good working knowledge and experience in the course that you’re teaching. ABYC certified is great but not necessary.

SUMMARY
Operates U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessels across the Savannah River and/or near coastal waterways and sounds. Supervises deckhands. Assures safe operation and navigation of the vessel while underway and enforces safety guidelines and rules for the vessel crew and passengers. Operates vessel in varying weather conditions. Interprets radar and weather instruments. Work is reviewed by superiors through written reports and by U.S. Coast Guard inspections.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Serves as Vessel Master.
• Inspects vessel to ensure that crew and passengers observe regulations pertaining to safety and efficient operation of vessel.
• Conduct safety meetings and emergency drills to assure maximum protection for crew and passengers.
• Maintain safety equipment and periodically inspect such equipment to ensure proper working condition.
• Assist in U.S. Coast Guard and departmental safety inspections.
• Supervises and instructs subordinate personnel in all aspects of ferry operations.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of the operation and basic maintenance of the vessel. Confer with maintenance personnel on routine and emergency repair and maintenance problems and take appropriate action to remedy problem.
• Supervise the crew in the loading and unloading of passengers.
• Respond to and resolve passenger complaints.
• Supervise collection and accountability of fare media as necessary.
• Maintain vessel’s log.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and possession of valid U.S. Coast Guard Master license of inspected vessel of 100 tons or greater. Marine Radio Operators Permit.
SUPERVISORY REPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 1 to 2 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid U.S. Coast Guard license as a Master of inspected vessels of 100 tons or over. Possession of a valid certificate as a Radar Observer issued by an institution approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. Possession of a valid Marine Radio Operator permit issued by the Federal Communications Commission.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must meet appropriate Coast Guard physical requirements to maintain license.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. LOCATION: Thompson Island – Boston, MA; Gloucester Shipyard
POSITION SUMMARY
The Ferry Captain is responsible for the safe transportation of all island visitors to and from Thompson Island on our 65’ passenger ferry, M/V Outward Bound. The M/V Outward Bound is a 300HP Single Screw Passenger Vessel. In addition, the Ferry Captain may be responsible for operating a smaller vessel to support the Programs Department in student course evacuations. The Ferry Captain reports to the Bosun.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serves as Master of a 65’ USCG inspected passenger vessel
• Operates a variety of small, uninspected passenger vessels and work boats
• Performs maintenance tasks as outlined in our Planned Maintenance Program
• Occasional overnights may be required
• Responsible for the safe navigation of all Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center owned vessels
• Responsible for the safe embarkation/disembarkation of passengers
• Responsible for managing all vessel crew (typically consisting of one deckhand)
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Vessel crew directly reports to the Captain on duty.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 3 years working onboard a vessel.
• Minimum of 1 year as Master of a vessel.
• Must currently hold a 100 Ton Masters license minimum.
• FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit required to be obtained within 3 months of the start date.
• Must be comfortable making decisions that affect life and property, often in stressful conditions.
• Desire to contribute, by way of fulfilling job duties, to the organizational mission of providing character development for Boston’s young people.
WORK CONDITIONS
• Must be comfortable working outside, on the water in a coastal environment.
• Overtime hours periodically required.
• Weekend and evening work are often required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to lift 70 lbs unassisted.
• Must be able to ride a ferry daily and traverse an island of varying terrains.
• Must be able to stand for 5+ hours per day.
